Seated massage consists of placing the client in the chair in either of two positions. For the client that cannot rest well on the stomach, he/she sits on the chair while resting their back on the chair. A client that can tolerate resting on the stomach leans the chest against the chair while placing their face in a face cradle for support. Essential oils may be used under the face cradle to provide aromatherapy during the massage.
Usually, the neck, shoulders, back, sides and scalp are massaged while in the chair. In some cases hot stones may be used to help relax the muscles for massage.
The chair used for chair massage is highly portable, allowing quick relief in places other than the massage therapist office. Providing chair massage in unusual places, like stores, shopping malls, business offices, etc. is also educational, in the sense that many people who have never experienced massage will give chair massage a try.
The chair used is ergonomically engineered to remove weight from the spine, while allowing the therapist to reach the most troublesome spots for massage.
Chere is available to perform seated massage at fund raisers. Seated massage is also suited well for trade shows (attracts attention to the booths). It seems to encourage traffic flow though the booth area as it is popular and usually attracts a crowd.
