Ashiatsu Bar Therapy

Benefits of Ashiatsu bar therapy

  • Even amounts of deep pressure
  • More pressure can be applied without bruising the client
  • Body receives anterior and posterior pressure at the same time
  • Since the foot is bigger, it can cover more tissue, stimulating a larger area at one time and increasing a larger amount of circulation
  • Postural alignments are gained
  • Most stretches done by the feet cannot be duplicated by the hands
  • Myofacial moves are easily performed with the barefoot method
  • The technique itself can be as light as the lightest Swedish massage, and as deep as the deepest pressure massage possible

Ashiatsu bar therapy consists of a frame over the massage table, providing support and balance for the therapist during the massage. This frame allows the therapist to postition his/her body properly to exert proper massage pressure, using a foot or feet. In practice, it very much looks like a fluid motion over the client's body. If need be, great pressure can be applied by the heal in spots that need deep pressure.

The pictures shown below gives an idea of what the frame looks like and how it is used. In some cases where there is not enough room for a frame in the massage room, bars can be mounted to ceiling over the table to provide the same support and balance for the therapist.
